Sustainable Living

Water - A Precious Resource.

Picture
Living in a dry land like Australia makes you realise just how precious our water supply is. Over the last few years Australia has been in drought and we have been living with water restrictions. Simple thing like turning off the tap when brushing your teeth help. Another idea is to have a bucket in the kitchen for any excess water. This can then be emptied onto the veggies.

Harvesting rainwater for use around the home is also a great idea. Aquaponics for growing veggies also helps. Vegetables grown aquaponically use 10% of the water compared with traditional dirt grown veggies.

Although we don't have much lawn at home, what we do have NEVER gets watered except by the rain. When I mow it, I cut it long, not short. Long grass always looks green, even when it has been dry for a long time.
